Dieux Blancs is French for White Gods. The name came about when we were determining what we wanted to achieve in our breeding program.
The best White Shepherds in Australia, a quality benchmark that others aspire to achieve.
My search for a dog began in 2003, although it was definitely not a search for a White. I simply wanted a good quality German Shepherd bitch who would be de-sexed, might compete in some obedience training but her primary role was to be that of a pampered pooch.
My then fiancé, now wife, was not keen on the idea, as like many others she irrationally thought that GSD's were dangerous dogs. This fear is brought about largely by irresponsible and misinformed media. Once her power of veto had been enacted I thought that I was doomed, but shortly after that she showed me a Burke's Backyard story featuring White Shepherds and she thought that she might like one.
This time it was me who was not so keen. I had owned GSD's and new a fair bit about them. One of the things that I did "know" was that there was something wrong with the Whites. Why else would they be banned from the show ring?
I resigned myself to the the fact that it was going to be a White or nothing if I wanted a shepherd so I started researching the breed. I quickly found that there was no more difference between White Shepherds and their coloured cousins than there is between a blond and a brunette human. In fact it appeared that the Whites may even better in a few ways.

There are massive amounts of web space dedicated to the pros and cons of White Shepherds so I am not going to get into it here. The only thing that I will say is that banning of Whites from the conformation ring stems from a lack of understanding of basic genetics. The banning of Whites makes as much sense today as banning a person from something because of their skin colour.

My search for a White of my own had me calling every registered White Shepherd breeder in the country. As fate would have it my search ended in June 2006, right back where it had started with my first call to Angela Sneddon at Alpinarc.
Ange had just had her "B" & "C" litters and I was desperate for a "B" litter dog but the pups had all been sold. The "C" litter dogs were more of a creamy colour and I wanted a snow white pup so I left disappointed.

A couple of days later Ange called me and told me about a girl from her "C" litter that she wanted to keep her eye on as a breeding bitch and would I be interested? I still wanted a pet but Ange was making me an offer that was hard to refuse, besides being used for breeding she would have to have great temperament, conformation and near perfect hips and elbows. What would the chances of that be? To top the deal off, Ange was going to let me name her Alpinarc Cosmic Stellar (Universal Leader), Stella at home.
As it turned out Ange has a bit of an eye for picking good pups and Stella has grown to be, arguably, one of the best White Shepherd bitches in the country.
Here at Dieux Blancs our priorities are health, temperament and conformation. Some white breeders will tell you that they are not breeding for colour as a priority but I will not lie to you. At Dieux Blancs, we are breeding White Shepherds, so colour must be a major priority. Every breeder of pedigree dogs is trying to achieve the dog that fits to the Breed Standard perfectly, colour is obviously a major part of any standard.

At Dieux Blancs Kennels we are dedicated to the preservation, betterment and the recognition of White Shepherds in Australia through positive promotion. We look forward to contributing to this cause with Dieux Blancs pups, and will be very happy seeing you getting enjoyment out of owning one of our wonderful dogs.
